An optical audio output enables Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound. The software includes a 7-day searchable program guide, parental controls, and on-screen caller ID with a phone line. In an addition to previous models, the H23 can display the scores of most televised sports events without changing the channel. SD content can be viewed in five screen formats. The H24 most significantly adds multi-room viewing, letting the receiver play recordings from a networked DVR in another room, for instance. The H23 is also sold in a version with DVR capabilities built-in, the HR23.
