DirecTV HR21

$200.00 Released January, 2008

Product Shot 1 The Pros:Easy to set up even by non-technical customers. HD picture quality is sharp and clear even on recorded programming. General operation is very easy, controls are intuitive and obvious.

The Cons:If DirectTV misses a channel in your area, no way to manually add it. Slightly below average at pulling in weaker signals. Power cord daisy chain connection is awkward and cumbersome.

The HR21 was a high-end DirecTV HD satellite receiver and DVR. It is very similar to its predecessor, the HR20, and its successor, the HR22. Manufactured by Hughes, the device outputs high-definition content in 1080i or 720p, via HDMI or component; S-video and composite outputs are also standard.

The HR21 lacks its predecessor's ATSC tuner, meaning it cannot receive over-the-air HD channels. A DirecTV DVR is built in, featuring one-touch recording and a storage capacity enabling up to 50 hours of MPEG-4 HD recordings or 200 hours in SD. Users can record two feeds at once while watching another.
